Volunteers Welcome

We are very lucky to have several volunteers who assist us with everything from ordering to shelving, but we are always happy to have more community members coming in to assist. If you are interested in becoming a library volunteer, please contact the IST librarians at Eleanor_Surridge@istianjin.net or Linnea_Simon@istianjin.net.

Birthday Book Club

We love to help students celebrate their birthdays! With the birthday book club, you help support the library’s book collection and give your child a special birthday memory. How does it work? The librarians select a new book for the library, based on your child’s interests. A nameplate will be put into the new book, and your child will be the first to check the new book out. The cost is 150 RMB. Please contact the librarians if you would like to celebrate your child’s next birthday with us!

Character Dress Up Day

Today we celebrated World Book Day in the library with Character Dress Up Day. It was wonderful to see so many students and teachers dressed up in fantastic costumes. We had a lunchtime parade, took green screen photos in the library, and activities for students who wished to stay in the library at lunchtime. Please enjoy some photos from this fun and exciting day at IST!

Poetry Month at the Library

We have been having a wonderful time celebrating Poetry Month over the past week. Students have enjoyed creating poems on our magnetic white board, exploring websites where they can read and write poems, and enjoying reading some of our fantastic collection of poetry books.

Next week will be even more exciting with all of the fun events we have planned, especially Character Dress Up Day on World Book Day Monday, April 24th!

Character Dress Up Day Monday, April 24th

We are going to celebrate World Book Day on April 24th  with Character Dress Up Day, a Library Lunchtime Parade, Photo Shoot, and more fun activities. Here are a few easy costume ideas to get you started.

Fancy Nancy (from the series by Jane O’Connor).

You will need lots of pink, a frilly skirt, and fun accessories. We have many Fancy Nancy books in the library; you can choose one to help inspire your costume.

Where’s Waldo? (from the books by Martin Hanford).

This costume is easy to make. All you need is a red and white striped shirt, red beanie, and some black-rimmed glasses.

Madeline (from the books by Ludwig Bemelmans)

To  dress up like Madeline, you’ll need a blue dress with white collar, a straw hat, red tie and white socks.

Arthur (from the books by Marc Brown)

For this costume, all you’ll need are a pair of jeans, a yellow sweater, white collared shirt, glasses, and sneakers.

We can’t wait to see your costumes on April 24th!

Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Happy birthday, Lucy!

Lucy, in kindergarten, donated the birthday book Princess Hyacinth: The Surprising Tale of a Princess Who Floated by Florence Parry Heide and Lane Smith. Lucy enjoys reading books about princesses, so we hope she will like this story of an unusual princess! Lucy was the first student to check out the book from the library this week. We hope you enjoy it!

If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with the IST Library Birthday Book Club, please contact the librarians at Linnea_Simon@istianjin.net or Eleanor_Surridge@istianjin.net for more information on how to join.

April is Poetry Month

All next month we will be celebrating the power of poetry at the IST library. Please stop by the library for:

  • displays of some of the wonderful books of poetry we have in the library collection
  • have fun creating your own poetry with our huge magnetic poetry board
  • write a poem on a postcard and post it anywhere in China or overseas (1 RMB in China and 5 RMB overseas)
  • Create and illustrate your own poems

We will celebrate World Book Day on April 24th and continue all week long with poetry quizzes (and a chance to win prizes!), special prizes for some of our library patrons, and lunchtime activities.

Come celebrate Poetry Month with us!

Happy Birthday, Allen!

Thank you to Zi Ming (Allen), grade 1, for his Birthday Book donation to the library. Allen’s birthday book is Minecraft: Medieval Fortress by Craig Jelley. Minecraft books are extremely popular at the IST library, and we know that Allen and many more students will enjoy this new addition to the collection. Enjoy your birthday book, Allen!
