Well here it is …..THE END! We made it! It is always bitter sweet when a school year ends but the children are ready to go onto the next adventures of their lives. I hope you enjoy one last slideshow of all the ‘Little Darlings’!

This is the last BLOG message for the school year. With that in mind here is a final huge THANK YOU for your continued support throughout the year. I know I / we kept you busy, preparing for the Today Show, helping with the home reading, homework, supporting the Units of Inquiry morning and afternoon teas, accompanying us on field trips, attending the Assembles, the Winter Show, the Spring Show, UN Day, Earth Day, class parties and performances. The list goes on and on! Your support and encouragement helped the children and me enormously. I would like to especially acknowledge the HOMEROOM MUMS for their extra efforts.

A special thanks to George, Treena, Anita and Ojas for helping out with home reading! A HUGE heart felt thank you must go to Ria who has been a tremendous help to both myself and the children throughout the school year.

It is  always sad to say goodbye to children and families who are moving to a new school, back to their home country or onto a new country. We have already said farewell to Isabel, Amelie and Aarav and today we have to say goodbye to Toren, Heloisa, Vanessa, Frida and William. We will miss you!! I am sure all who are staying at IST would join me in wishing their families safe travels and best wishes where ever life’s journey may take them.

If you are traveling over the summer vacation take care and enjoy the company of your family and friends. I am looking forward to catching up with some old friends in Romania, then onto Crete and finally to the UK to meet my Mum and niece.

If you are coming back to IST, please don’t be strangers next school year and always feel welcome to come in and say hello.

Warmest regards,

Jackie

We read the rules, followed the clues, scared the kids and teachers, found the map and dug up our treasure! It sure is hard work being a pirate!!

The Grade One students entertained us with their end of unit productions. We saw a puppet show, a song and dance and watched as the children acted out a story. It was was VERY entertaining as you can see by the faces of the audience!

Sarah set herself the goal of reading 150 books before the end of Kindergarten. It was quite the challenge but she worked hard, sometimes reading 3-4 books over the weekend or during the week.

That’s why I call her SUPER SARAH!

Congratulations on achieving your goal!

The children turned into pirates today. The Kinder Kids and Pre-K worked very well together in their crews. They made their pirate hats, played Pirate and the Parrot, Pirate Pop (the balloon) and learned a pirate dance. We had so much fun! Arrrrrrrgh!!

Some birthday’s always fall during the vacation, such as, Aarav’s but that didn’t stop him from ensuring his friends got to share in his special day. We all enjoyed a chocolate muffin that made up the giant six and everyone received a fantastic puzzle. Thanks Aarav! We loved celebrating your ‘early’ birthday and wish you all the best on your ‘real’ 6th birthday in July!

It was with much sadness that we said goodbye to one of the most delightful children you could ever meet, Little Amelie. She always brought a smile to everyone’s face and although small in statue, has one of the biggest and kindest hearts you will ever come across. Safe travels to Amelie and her family!

We will miss you!

The kids had a fantastic time at Water Fun! It was non stop action from the beginning to end… with the pools, sprinkler, slides, the bubble machine, jumping castles and the all time favorite, the free ice-cream! The weather was on our side, as we just finished before ‘the storm’!

Here they are doing what kids do best …. having the time of their lives!

Once again I have to say a huge THANK YOU to the parents for coming in and supporting the children’s learning!  I hope you  agree with me, that the Ocean Exhibition showed just how far the children have come learning through the INQUIRY process. Each of the children chose how they wanted to share  their knowledge for the final assessment of the unit and completed their idea with very little teacher support.  Congratulations Kinder Kids!!

Here are your amazing children practicing with Grade One and then in ACTION with you at the Ocean Exhibition.

Dear Parents,

I really wanted to make sure I took the time to share my heartfelt thanks to you all for the lovely flowers and the beautiful ceramic Chinese Zodiac set (I LOVE THEM) and especially for all kind words. The personal touches of saying thank you are humbling and I very much appreciate your time in making them.

I want to say to you all, what a privilege it has been to teach your child. The class may have grown but that to me only added to the learning and the laughing and the sharing and caring and ……FUN!!! (Oh, and the odd time of me having to turn into a dragon :)) I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and everyone of your amazing, individual and delightful children. I love them to bits! As you could tell, I am always a little sad to say goodbye to each class but I hope they look back on their year in Kindergarten with many fond memories. I know I will!

Thanks again EVERYONE!

Congratulations to Seung Hyun who received his medal at the ‘final’ afternoon tea. Unfortunately he could not get it at the last assembly due to being ill; however, it was wonderful to have a chance to recognize him today.

Seung Hyun’s medal was awarded for being a COURAGEOUS learner. It is very difficult to come to a new school and learn in a new language but he is trying his best to do just that. Keep up the super effort Seung Hyun!

IMG_0154Heloisa’s and Tomas’s mums came in and told us all about a wonderful Brazilian celebration called Festa Junina (June Festival). It is for celebrating the nativity of St. John the Baptist and takes place in the beginning of the Brazilian winter.
The costumes people wear to these parties are like a farmer/ peasant or hillbilly.  Little girls and women wear bright colors and beautiful dresses.  Red checkered clothing is also very popular.  Straw hats are sold everywhere and worn during this celebration.  It is common for girls to wear their hair in ponytails or braids.  Boys have their faces drawn with mustaches and whiskers.   Girls have  eyelashes and freckles painted on their faces.
They also made a lot of special food, mainly from corn, for us to try. The children had a fabulous time learning about the celebration. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING A LITTLE OF YOUR BRAZILIAN LIFE WITH US!
