This week was the second week of our PYPX unit. We had a range a guest speakers talking about farming and foot prints, yoga and wellbeing, vegetarianism, fast fashion, importance of clean water, education and gender equality and third culture kids. This will give students some ideas and it will interest them to know more.

We we entertained by a terrific lion dance by professionals and a dragon dance by grade 4 students at the end of the day.

Happy Chinese New Year and have a restful break.

Grade 4 Selling Slime

Dear Parents,

Grade 4 students have been studying money as part of their UOI. For their STEM project we have decided to make slime and then sell it to learn about profit, expenses, and overhead. Wednesday, February 14th is the last day Grade 4’s will be selling their product. The cost varies between each “company” within Grade 4 but the range is between 13 RMB and 16 RMB. We have about 40 jars of slime left to sell. If your son or daughter is interested in buying from Grade 4’s tomorrow please send along a little bit of money. They will be selling in the elementary kitchen from 12:25 – 12:45.

Thank you,

Jason Inghram

PYP Exhibition Week 1

Grade 5 were exposed to a lot of ideas through their field trips this week. These varied experiences will help them to choose something that they are passionate about or get new ideas that they want to research into.

We started the week with going to a local kindergarten in O.C. where students interacted with 2-3 year olds. On Wednesday, we had a guest speaker, Dr Wang tell us about Chinese medicine and acupressure. We then went to the Caterpillar factory where students were given a tour and they had also had jobs assigned with caterpillar name tags. Students learnt about the complexities of these jobs and how important safety rules are in a factory. Next, we went to a disability home which was a different experience for our students as they saw how the disability home focuses on teaching life skills such as taking a bus home. Last, we did a small tour of the local market where we learnt more about small businesses: fabric and tailor shop, sausage maker, peanut butter maker, salad+dumplings maker and bread maker.

Friday marked the beginning of Chinese New Year activities. Students went to the bazaar in the Han building and even made their own dumplings.

Next week are some speaker presentations from members of staff to learn about some of the ideas they are passionate about.

Here are some photos from the week. Have a great weekend before the break.
